Take in the highlights of the beautiful Lake District!

The Lake District is one of Britains most beautiful corners fusing green dales, stark, rocky mountains and spectacular lakees together. Located in North-West England, the region is filled with many of the countrys most beautiful sights. Eminent writers such as William Wordsworth & Beatrix Potter drew their inspirations from this picturesque area of the British Isles and the breathtaking views also inspired Englands most illustrious landscape artist, John Constable.

In addition to the fabulous scenery, the lake district is home to a myriad of buildings from ruined castles and writers houses, to ancient churches and Roman ruins.

The high speed train service operated by Virgin trains mean the Lake District is just over 3 hours away.

The Lake District, also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, is a rural area in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes and its mountains (or fells), and its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the Lake Poets.

The Lake District is about 34 miles (55 km) across. Its features are a result of periods of glaciation, the most recent of which ended some 15,000 years ago. These include the ice-carved wide U-shaped valleys, many of which are now filled with the lakes that give the park its name. The upper regions contain a number of glacial cirques, which are typically filled with tarns. The higher fells are rocky, with lower fells being open moorland, notable for its wide bracken and heather coverage. Below the tree line, native oak woodlands sit alongside nineteenth century pine plantations. Much of the land is often boggy, due to the high rainfall. The Lake District is one of the most highly populated national parks. Its total area is near 885 square miles (2,292 km²), and the Lake District was designated as a National Park in 1951.

Windermere is the largest natural lake in England. It has been one of the country’s most popular places for holidays and summer homes since 1847, when the Kendal and Windermere Railway built a branch line to it. It is in the county of Cumbria and entirely within the Lake District National Park.

Your morning check-in is at Euston train station at 6.10am, where you will be met by a Tour representative. By 9.50am you will arrive at Oxenholme in the Lake District and will be transferred to Lake Windermere. There will be some free time to take some photos and explore before enjoying a delicious lunch is a picturesque pub overlooking the lake. There will also be some time to explore the world of Beatrix Potter

In the afternoon you will head off on tour to the very heart of the Lake District including a scenic cruise on Lake Coniston. The first stop is Hill Top, Beatrix Potters home, where she wrote several of her famous childrens stories. Then on to Hawkshead, with its quaint alley ways, 12th century church, and the 16th century Grammar school attended by William Wordsworth, and the Beatrix Potter gallery. In the late afternoon you will journey to Grasmere and the surrounding valleys, where Wordsworth spent most of his life and produced his finest poetry. Finally you will be dropped back to Oxenholme for your return journey home.
