Tour Schedule

Walking Tour of Oxford

The tour will depart central London in the morning accompanied by an expert guide. As you travel comfortably to the university city of Oxford, sit back and watch as the urban landscape slowly changes to green fields and pretty English countryside. You will arrive in Oxford and take a walking tour through the cobbled streets to see some of the city’s architectural highlights

Oxford is home to the oldest university in the English speaking world and a number of famous figures once studied here. Discover the breathtaking Bodleian Library, Sheldonian Theatre and other historic buildings as you wander down cobbled streets with your guide

Following your visit to Oxford, the tour will then take a short drive to the Cotswolds village of Bampton. This lovely village has been used extensively throughout the series of Downton Abbey and has many beautiful 17th and 18th century houses. Bampton Library was used for Downton Cottage Hospital and doctor’s surgery, St. Mary’s Church became Downton Church and Church Square and Churchgate House was used for exterior shorts of the Crawley family home

You will be able to walk along the street used for shops in the show and see the post office and Grantham Arms., where Tom Branson lodged for a short while

Enjoy a drive through the village of Shilton as your Downton Abbey-inspired tour continues! Shilton is located close to the old Roman road known as Akeman Street and in this village you will find The Red Lion public house, where Mr Bates went to work after he left Downton Abbey in series two of the show

Lunch in Burford

Relax in Burford, also known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’, during your included two course lunch. Burford features a stunning medieval bridge, traditional stone houses and a selection of Tudor and Georgian frontages.

Yew Tree Farm (Cogges)

The last stop on your Downton Abbey and the Cotswolds Tour is Yew Tree Farm (Cogges). This farm first appeared in series four with Mr Drewe as the tenant farmer and has been featured extensively in the first five episodes of season five. You will learn about the developing storyline between Charles Blake, handsome government advisor, and Lady Mary, now entrusted with the running of the estate following Matthew’s death

At Yew Tree Farm, enjoy a short tea break in the rustic cow shed Cafe at Cogges before exploring the great house and traditional farm buildings. You’ll recognise the location of the now famous ‘pig scene’, featuring the characters of Charles Blake and Lady Mary

After departing Yew Tree Farm, the tour will then return to London for approximately 6.30pm
