From Manchester the Glorious Yorkshire Dales and Emily Brontës Haworth
This is a day designed especially for lovers of literature, history, and dramatic scenery. As the city fades behind you, the Yorkshire countryside slowly reveals itself, shifting from urban bustle to rolling hills and quiet lanes. It is easy to see how these moorlands and valleys once stirred the imaginations of great writers, shaping stories that still resonate today.
Your first stop is Haworth, the hillside village forever associated with the Brontë family. Walk the steep cobbled streets they once knew and soak up the atmosphere of this evocative place. You may have the chance to visit the former Brontë home, now the Brontë Parsonage Museum, depending on opening times. Haworth itself is full of character, with independent shops, cosy cafés, and sweeping views across the surrounding moors. Nearby, fans of The Railway Children may recognise Oakworth Station, home to a charming steam railway.
In the afternoon, the scenery opens out as you travel through the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Rolling hills, craggy moorlands, and limestone cliffs dominate the view, creating a rugged and romantic backdrop. You stop in Grassington, a lively market town often called the beating heart of the Dales and known to many as Darrowby from All Creatures Great and Small. The journey continues to Aysgarth Falls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall admired for over two centuries and featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Later, indulge in a visit to Wensleydale Creamery to sample its famous cheeses before ending the day at the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct. After time for photos and fresh air, you return to Manchester, arriving at approximately 7.15pm.
