Travel south to the Exmoor National Park. First stop of the day is Dunster, a medieval village overlooked by a castle, which you can view as you wander the village.

You continue along the coast through the National Park, through more quaint seaside towns. We’ll make a stop in one of these gorgeous villages nestled in the hills, where you’ll have time to explore and grab some lunch.

After lunch, you continue through the valley to visit Tintagel Castle. Situated dramatically on the rugged cliffs of a Cornish peninsula, this medieval ruin is one of the most awe-inspiring historic sites in the region. A rumoured birthplace of King Arthur, you take a step into myth and legend as you make your way along the cliffs into this majestic ruin.

Free evening in Falmouth

We depart Tintagel and head for the coastal city of Falmouth, our overnight base for the next two nights. As well as its nautical history, Falmouth is today known for being a hub for arts and culture. You can wander the streets at your leisure; enjoy the setting sun over the sea, as you sample some of the best seafood in the country.

Waking up bright and early, your first stop of the day is the famous town of St Ives. Best known for its thriving art scene, this town is characterised by sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets, and traditional fisherman’s cottages. You’ll have the morning to explore the bustling seafront and visit the local galleries.

The morning continues a little further down the coast at Land’s End, one of the best known landmarks in the UK. At the southern tip of England, this legendary spot has ties to more Arthurian legend, with the ‘Lost Land of Lyonesse’ said to lie beneath the waters between the pensinula and the Isles of Scilly.

Onwards for a lunch break; and you’re heading to the awe-inspiring Minack Theatre. This open-air theatre, set in the cliffs facing out over the sea, was built in the 1930s by Rowena Crade, who’s extraordinary vision and handiwork remains in this unique site in the Cornish coast. There’s time for photos of St Michaels Mount later in the afternoon; the castle situated on a tidal island makes for a romantic scene filled with local legends. You can view the island from Marazion, the oldest town in western Cornwall.

It’s a short drive from Marazion back to Falmouth, where you can relax by the seafront and reminisce over the memories of the day.

Amazing cut into the cliffs the Minack Theatre

You pack your bags and leave Falmouth behind. This is a flexible morning, as your driver-guide takes you through the rugged Bodmin Moor. You might recognise this bleak moody landscape as the backdrop to Daphne du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn; as well as gothic tales of smugglers and pirates, there are stone circles scattered across the peaty moorlands, promising more untold legends and mysteries.

You’ll get to stop at the traditional Jamaica Inn itself, which served as the inspiration for the famous novel. You may not encounter any smugglers there today, but instead enjoy the local hospitality and learn about the murky past.

You cross the county border into Devon, and arrive to Tavistock for lunch. You have free time to explore the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status; famed for the local mining heritage and 19th-century town centre, there is plenty to explore in this unique market town. Your journey continues east through Dartmoor National Park, weaving through the rolling landscape towards Widecombe-in-the-Moor, where you can enjoy a cream tea.

The final stop of the day is at the rocky granite outcrops of Haytor, one of Dartmoor’s most famous and beautiful landmarks. As the sun starts to set, you continue onto Exeter, one of the oldest cities in the UK and your home for the final night on tour. The day may be drawing to a close, but you have free time to wander the cobbled streets around the Gothic cathedral, and enjoy one of the many independent restaurants serving local produce.

Beautiful Dartmoor National Park

Your final morning on tour is flexible, as you make your way along the Jurassic Coast. This 95-mile long stretch of coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site, famed for the sandy beaches, unique geology, and abundance of fossils, dating back 185 million years. You travel to Lyme Regis, one of the many charming coastal holiday destinations, for stunning views over the sparkling blue sea and some refreshments before continuing along this famous route.

After your morning in the historic city, it’s off to the coast for some sea air. Your driver-guide will take you along the road to Durdle Door, one of the region’s most well-known landmarks. There’s time to explore and take pictures of the iconic limestone arch from the cliffs, or you can make your way down to the sandy beach. From here, it’s a short drive to Lulworth Cove, another unique geological wonder; here, you can have a seaside lunch as you enjoy the pebbled beach and secluded bay. There’s no need to hurry – you’ll have more stops at more of these coastal wonders as you travel along the ancient Jurassic Coast.

The journey starts to head inland and you travel to the enigmatic Stonehenge. You’ll spend the afternoon exploring the visitor centre and getting up close to the neolithic stones, which have stood for over 5000 years. Will you uncover the mystery behind why this monument was built?

Finally, it’s time to return to Bristol. You can reflect on your journey through the magical and mysterious coastlines and moors of Devon and Cornwall as you return to the city.

You return to Bristol at approximately 6.45pm.
