Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - London and Amsterdam

Depart London.  See the famous White Cliffs in Dover where you cross the Channel by ferry to Calais in France.  You then journey through Belgium’s Flanders fields and onto The Netherlands, renowned for tulips, clogs and windmills. Later arrive in Amsterdam, one of Europe’s friendliest cities.

Amsterdam Discovery And Canal Cruise
Absolutely the best way to see Amsterdam’s wonderful sights! A private cruise by glass-roofed boat travels the historic canal ring, showing imposing warehouses, stately merchant homes, houseboats & bridges. Then, on foot with our Local Specialist, explore the heart of the city, including the not-to-be-missed coffeehouses and shop-windows of the Red Light District!

Day 2 - Amsterdam, Cologne and Rhineland

Cross into Germany and view the gothic Cologne Cathedral, the tallest Roman Catholic cathedral in the World.  Enjoy a scenic cruise down the River Rhine past terraced vineyards and towering castles.  Finish the day at your hotel in the Rhineland.

Day 3 - Rhineland, Munich and Innsbruck

In Munich see the Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz and the Hofbräuhaus. Continue along the Inn Valley to the Austrian Tyrol and on to Innsbruck, a picturesque town where you can admire the sights including the Golden Roof and see the ski-jump.

Day 4 - Innsbruck and Venice

Enjoy an exhilarating journey through the Brenner Pass – one of the principal alpine highways – to Italy.  In the city of Venice cruise by private launch to St. Mark’s Square.  Admire St. Mark’s Basilica and the lavish Doge’s Palace. Visit a traditional glassblowing workshop and see a demonstration, then spend time discovering the delights of Venice.

Gondolas and the Grand Canal
Join us for a scenic cruise by private water taxi along Venice’s Grand Canal. You’ll admire the magnificent palazzi, as well as catching a glimpse of the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square. Later on, you’ll glide gracefully on a gondola along Venice’s dreamy, narrow waterways.

Day 5 - Venice and Rome

Traverse the Veneto plain via Bologna and cross the dramatic Apennine Mountains into Tuscany. Continue through Umbria to Lazio and the capital, Rome. This evening take the opportunity to explore the city’s beautiful squares and fountains and perhaps savour the local cuisine at one of the many restaurants.

Piazzas and Fountains of Rome
Starting with a lovely drive and continuing on foot, you’ll discover hidden backstreets, piazzas and fountains of the ‘Eternal City’ with a Local Specialist. Along the way, you’ll marvel at the timeless Pantheon, the best-preserved Roman temple in the world. Many additional highlights are revealed on this relaxed tour that also offers free time in a gorgeous Baroque square with street artists, trattorias and gelaterias!

Day 6 - Rome Sightseeing

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the famous landmarks in Rome. Visit St. Peter’s Basilica, featuring superb works of art and see the magnificent Colosseum and the ancient sites of Rome.  Spend the rest of the day as you wish.

Explore Ostia Antica
Join us on a journey along the Mediterranean coast and visit the excavations of Ancient Ostia, the former harbour of Rome. These ruins offer perhaps a more complete picture of Roman urban life than either Rome or Pompeii. See the remains of the baths, theatre, apartment houses, drinking room, mosaics and wall paintings at this beautiful site, mirrored by cypress trees and umbrella pines.

Roman Evening with Dinner
This easy-going evening in Rome begins with a beautiful drive to see amazing city sights. We arrive at one of our favourite restaurants, where you’ll enjoy a warm welcome and delicious dinner of local cuisine with drinks and music.

Inside The Vatican & Colosseum
We skip the lines at the Vatican Museums for this tour that shows not just remarkable works of art collected and commissioned over the history of the Papacy, but also Michelangelo’s amazing ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. Later we hear fascinating tales of gladiatorial combat and more on our visit to the Colosseum, again with time-saving VIP entrance.

Day 7 - Rome and Florence

Drive north through Umbria into the rolling countryside of Tuscany.  In the city of Florence enjoy spectacular views of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo. Afterwards there is time to explore the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft.

Florence’s Renaissance Treasures
This trip is all about exploring the jewel in Florence’s crown: its Renaissance heritage. You’ll view the Michelangelo collection, including the masterpiece that is his statue of David at the Academy of Fine Arts. You’ll also see the Duomo and experience first-hand its spectacular design. Signoria Square, the political centre of Florence, will also be visited on this wonderful experience.

Day 8 - Florence and Lucerne Region

Cross the Apennines to the great northern plain and pass the city of Milan. Continue north to the Swiss border and follow the scenic St. Gotthard route to Lake Lucerne in the heart of Switzerland. The landscape is breathtaking.

Swiss Folklore Evening And Dinner
Tonight we’ll enjoy a tasty Swiss meal, including the famous Swiss cheese fondue, in a typical restaurant. While enjoying dinner, you can also join in a lively folklore show which includes yodelling, flag-throwing and Alpine horn-blowing. Two drinks are also included.

Day 9 - Lucerne Sightseeing

Relax with a morning sightseeing tour including views of the Chapel Bridge, the Jesuit Church and a visit to the Lion Monument, built to commemorate the Swiss Guards who died defending Louis XVI during the French Revolution. Then enjoy some free time to see what you want to see.

Mount Pilatus And Lake Cruise
We’ll ascend by cog-wheel train to Mount Pilatus’ summit, where you’ll have time to explore, admire the views, and breathe the pure air. Then, we’ll descent by cable-car to enjoy a scenic lake cruise. On certain departures this Optional may be operated in reverse.

Day 10 - Lucerne Region and Paris

Pass the Vosges Mountains as you travel to France.  See the vineyards as you travel through the great wine region of Burgundy.  Arrive later in the ‘City of Love’; Paris.

Paris at night is a city transformed. Enjoy this superb ‘City of Light’ on a leisurely cruise along the River Seine. Afterwards, as we drive through this amazing city, we’ll stop at some vantage points for you to capture the fascinating sights on camera. In summer, this trip may take place before sunset.

Day 11 - Paris Sightseeing

This morning you are taken on a panoramic tour of the famous landmarks including; the Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. Afterwards there is time for you to explore on your own.

Day 12 - Paris and London

Head north from Paris across WWI battlefields of the Somme to Calais and take the ferry to Dover. Arrive shortly afterwards in London, where you say farewell to your Travel Director and travelling companions at the end of an amazing holiday.

FAQ’s

What meals are included?

Breakfast is included on all overnight tours.  Lunches are not included, unless otherwise stated.  Evening meals are included when stated on the tour itinerary.  On tours of seven days or more, generally fifty percent of dinners are included.  Please check the itinerary page for exact details.

Where does the trip depart from?

Each UK trip will have a dedicated pick up point in central London.  Shorter duration trips will normally depart from Victoria Coach Station, with longer duration trips leaving from the London Reception Centre, near to Waterloo train station.  Departure points will be confirmed before booking a tour.

Can I get picked up from my hotel?

Pick up from hotels is not possible.  You will need to make your own way to the departure point.  However some tours do have a designated hotel departure, which you can stay in prior to the trip.  Please ask at time of booking for departure points and we can direct you to local hotels.

Are entrance fees included?

Entrance fees are included where specified on the itinerary.

Can I pay in dollars?

All tours are quoted and charged in pounds sterling, but you can pay using your local card and currency.  We will debit the card in pounds sterling and your bank will use their exchange rate at that time to deduct the amount in your local currency.

What time does the trip leave and return?

Departure times will vary depending on the itinerary.  European tours departing from London will usually leave between 05.00am and 07.00am.  Multi day UK tours will leave between 06.00am and 07:30am.  Day trips will depart between 07.00am and 09.00am.  European and worldwide tours that start in an overseas city will have a welcome reception on day one of the tour which is usually around 18.00pm.

Return times vary depending on the itinerary.  All the full day coach tours should be finished by no later than 19.00pm, traffic permitting.  The train tours return between 20.00pm and 22.00pm.  Longer duration trips will return between 16.00pm and 19.00pm.  All times will be confirmed at time of booking.

Is this a definite/guaranteed departure?

A definite departure is guaranteed to operate for that given departure date.  A trip that is not yet designated a definite departure is not yet guaranteed to operate based on current booking numbers.  If a trip and departure date you are interested in is not yet definite, do not let this discourage you from booking.  The more paid passengers received, the odds of the trip operating increase.  In the slim case that the operator withdraw a trip you are booked on due to a lack of numbers, you are entitled to a full refund of any funds already paid towards the tour, or if flexible with your time, we can move you onto another departure.

Who travels on these tours, who else is booked?

Whilst we can not confirm exactly who else is booked on a tour, we can guarantee you will be travelling with fellow liked minded travelers who share a passion for travel, fun, adventure and discovery.  All tours will be run by English speaking guides and age ranges will vary.  The beauty of taking a guided holiday is you’ll have the opportunity to meet and travel with people from all over the globe.

Are transfers included from the airport?

In general, if you are joining or departing your guided holiday on the first or last day, return transfers between the airport and hotel are included (excludes itineraries starting and/or ending in London).  You’ll find specific information on the itinerary’s page.

What optional excursions can I do and can I book them now?

Optional experiences are available on some tours.  These are activities that are not automatically included, but offered during your trip to enhance your travel experience.  These are all bookable whilst on the tour via your tour guide/travel director.  These are payable by cash or card.
